Planes, boats and automobiles will be on the Capitol Hill agenda this week, as a number of transportation groups hold lobby days.
The National Marine Manufacturers Association and about three dozen co-hosts launch the American Boating Congress today; about 250 business leaders in the recreational boating industry will attend. Key issues include ethanol and recreational fisheries management.
Other modes of transportation will be represented by the American International Automobile Dealers Association, holding its 10th Annual International Auto Industry Summit, and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, holding its GAMA Hill Day and spring board meeting.
The Transportation Construction Coalition, an alliance of 31 national associations and construction unions, holds the annual TCC fly-in. Priority issues: Fixing the Highway Trust Fund, and fully funding last year's FAST Act.
Also on Capitol Hill this week: The National Association of Realtors is bringing "thousands" of people to its annual Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo. In addition to congressional office visits, NAR has organized visits to seven federal agencies that impact housing policy. The list includes the Federal Aviation Administration; NAR wants its members to be able to use drones in the marketing of properties.
Cancer researchers and doctors will advocate for robust funding for the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute. The American Mosquito Control Association will ask for more money to help combat the spread of the Zika virus.
The National Cannabis Industry Association kicks off its sixth lobby days event with a news conference Thursday morning. Top priorities for owners of legal marijuana businesses include solving the troubles they accessing banking and other financial services, and reforming the federal tax code.
